Zombies are reanimated, mindless, decaying corpses with a hunger for human brains. They are the main antagonists of Plants vs. Zombies 2, as the objective of the game is to prevent them from eating the player's brains. Zombies, like their defensive counterparts the plants, are varied in strength as well as speed, and command unique aspects which must be countered appropriately.
A total of 135 zombies appear in the game but if the zombies in the Chinese version are included, the grand total is 171.

- All of the Zombots' health are different from each other. It seems like some Zombots are stronger than the others while all of them are bosses of each world they appear. This may be because each boss battle has offensive plants that do a certain amount of damage; as some do greater or lower damage in each world, possibly to balance the duration of each boss battle.
- Zombie King and Fisherman Zombie are the only zombies that do not have its speed listed, simply because they don't move at all.
- Before the 1.2 update in the Chinese version, Gargantuar Bronzes had Average toughness and it absorbed 350 normal damage shots.
- Before the 1.2 update in the Chinese version, Qigong Bronze’s speed was listed as Stiff.
- Before the 3.3.2 update, Dodo Rider Zombie had Hardened toughness and Creeper Speed and it absorbed 24.5 normal damage shots with no degrades.
