This is a strategy page for ZomBotany. Before adding your own, please see the rules page first.

Tips[]

Peashooter Zombies shoot peas at plants. Wall-nuts block their peas from those zombies. Tall-nuts are better, but not really needed. Spikeweeds and Spikerocks can be placed in front of them, since they cannot be reached by peas from the ZomBotany zombies. The Garden Rake is recommended since it determines where the first zombie will come and helps keeps plants safe. For the Wall-nut Zombie, treat it like a Buckethead Zombie but without using the Magnet-shroom. Plant Sunflowers and attacking plants like Repeaters and Torchwood, although other plants also work. Note: it's better to play this game when you have already received Spikeweed.

Plants recommended[]

Strategies[]

Setup 1 (10 Seed Setup)[]

This setup is built up with peashooting plants, defensive plants, and instant kills, which is the most common strategy. Just do the same thing as you do in normal levels, except that you have to build defensive plants much faster or you will be overwhelmed and you will lose your plants very fast. Potato Mines are not affected by peas, so it is useful when you don't have much sun. Instant kills can be used for emergency and to kill Wall-nut Zombies.

Setup 2 (9 Seed Setup)[]

Sample ZomBotany Layout

Sample ZomBotany 9-Slot Setup, not requiring Imitater

  • Gloom-shroom
  • Coffee Bean
  • Potato Mine
  • Spikeweed
  • Imitater Potato Mine
  • Garlic

The garden rake is strongly needed.

Plant Sunflowers on first, third and fifth rows and plant your Garlics in the same rows. Build up Fume-shrooms behind the Garlics and slowly upgrade them to Gloom-shrooms. Do not plant anything where there's a rake, let the Peashooter Zombie walk on it and it'll die. If your Gloom-shrooms aren't ready yet, use Potato Mines and Imitater Potato Mines until at least two Gloom-shrooms are planted. Also, it is not necessary to upgrade your Sunflowers to Twin Sunflowers. When both Gloom-shrooms are awake, they'll kill the zombies and you should replace the Garlic that has been degraded and do not let the Gloom-shrooms get shot down or eaten, you can plant Spikeweeds for extra damage for those Wall-nut Zombies. Do not plant the defensive plants or you will never earn Wall-not Attack. The game allows you to use the non-shell plants, Potato Mine and its Imitater. Then, on the final wave, the Gloom-shrooms kill the zombies and there are no defensive plants on the lawn.

Setup 3 (8 Seed Setup)[]

  • Sunflower
  • Wall-nut
  • Jalapeno
  • Spikeweed
  • Tall-nut
  • Garlic
  • Twin Sunflower
  • Spikerock

In this setup, you start by planting Sunflowers in the second and fourth lanes and a Garlic at the end. The Sunflowers should cover all the spaces except for the last one. When possible, upgrade them into Twin Sunflowers. Then start planting Wall-nuts (you won't have that much sun when the zombies start showing up) in the sixth columns of the rest of the lanes. When they get deformed, turn them into Tall-nuts. Also, plant Spikeweeds on the right of them. Upgrade Spikeweeds as soon as possible. In individual lanes with lots of zombies, use Jalapenos. Replace damaged Garlics and Tall-nuts as well.

Zombotany 8 seed

The 8 Seed Setup (the Wall-nut is a slot filler)

Strategy 4[]

This strategy will earn the achievement Wall-Not Attack. Choose these plants:

  • Garlic
  • Threepeater
  • Spikeweed
  • Spikerock
  • Potato Mine
  • Sunflower

Choose other instants to fill you seed slots, and buy a rake.

First, start planting Sunflowers in the first 8 squares of rows 1 and 5. Let the rake kill the first zombie. If the next zombie appears in the top or bottom lane, redirect it with Garlic. Make sure you have a Garlic in front of each lane of Sunflowers. Use Potato Mines to kill early zombies. Save up 325 sun for the Threepeater. Place it in the third lane and put a Garlic at the right-most square of the third lane. Add another Threepeater when you have the sun. Then, on lanes 2 and 4, place Spikeweeds on the edge of the lawn. Keep adding Spikeweeds and Threepeaters, upgrading Spikeweeds to Spikerocks, and replenishing your Garlics and you will beat the level.

Strategy 5[]

This strategy uses only Instants to beat the mini-game

  • Sunflower (needed)
  • Sun-shroom
  • Coffee Bean
  • Doom-shroom
  • Potato Mine
  • Imitater Doom-shroom (optional)
  • Cherry Bomb (optional)
  • Jalapeno (optional)

You may include Cherry Bomb or Jalapenos but I normally use them for emergency purposes only. This strategy involves on relying almost entirely on Sun-shrooms for sun and using only instants to kill the zombies. Normally Doom-shrooms and Potato Mines should be enough and the other instants may be used only for emergency.

Strategy 6[]

This needs the following seeds:

Plant Sunflowers on the first row with 2 Garlics at the 8th and 9th column of the row. Obviously, you cannot set up all the Sunflowers before the zombies come, that's when the Potato Mines come in use. Plant them in the 1st row where they buy time, arm up, and explode. They cannot be damaged due to their height. Then, when ready, plant 4 or 5 Peashooters in each row with Wall-nuts in the 8th column. If there is ever a giant wave of zombies in a row, use split peas to your advantage by planting them behind zombies. Replant Garlic when needed and use Wall-nut First Aid to refresh Wall-nuts. The Puff-shrooms and Flower Pots are good for spamming in front of them. ____________________________________________________

  • Wall-nut
  • Potato Mine
  • Squash
  • Torchwood
  • Imitater Potato Mine

Plant nothing (except Potato Mines), enough sun for a Peashooter and one Wall-nut (for all the rows). Plant after the Peashooters, Sunflowers and plant Torchwoods before Peashooters and Wall-nuts.

Strategy 9 []

Plants needed:

  • Sunflower
  • Potato Mine
  • Repeater
  • Torchwood
  • Wall-nut
  • Imitater Wall-nut
  • Peashooter
  • Squash (optional)
  • Twin Sunflower (optional)
  • Spikeweed (optional)

A rake is not needed for this strategy. At the start of the level, plant a Sunflower. And when you plant about 2 to 3 Sunflowers, the first zombie will approach. Use a just-recharged Potato Mine to handle the zombie. After the zombie has been defeated, use the Wall-nut to delay the second zombie. Plant a Peashooter to finish the zombie off. The third zombie will approach and so the Potato Mine to finish him. By that time, you have planted 2 rows of Sunflowers. Plant more Wall-nuts and Peashooters. By the first wave, you should have planted one row of Wall-nuts and Peashooters. Wall-nut Zombies will approach and they are quite tough! To handle him, use a Repeater and Torchwood combo to kill it. Do the same for all the other rows. When the last wave come, it would be easy to kill all the zombies.

Your defense should look like this:

S S P R T W - - -

S S P R T W - - -

S S P R T W - - -

S S P R T W - - -

S S P R T W - - -

S is Sunflower

T is Torchwood

W is Wall-nut

- is nothing.

Strategy 10[]

Select these plants:

File:Plants vs. Zombies 1 Gameplay (4) - ZomBotany 1
[]

Similar as strategy 9, you plant Sunflowers and Potato Mines at the start of the level to build fast your sun. When you have enough sun, start to plant Peashooters and if any lane is doing poorly (like zombie invasion), plant Snow Peas and Repeaters. By the first wave, you should have a row of Peashooters and some Snow Peas. Repeaters should be planted as it is hard to kill 2 zombies at the same row, especially the front one is a Wall-nut Zombie and the one behind is a Peashooter, when you kill the Wall-nut Zombie, either the Wall-nut is poorly damaged, or your defense has been broken to. Plant more Repeaters and at the last wave, it is a no problem.

Puff-shroom strategy[]

Plants needed:

Start planting Puff-shrooms in the first 3 back columns. It may take some time when the zombies are walking on the lawn, so plant Potato Mines to stop them. Since this strategy requires no Sunflowers, it may be more difficult to beat this mini-game. When the Wall-nuts are finished recharging, start planting some. The defense is complete! (If you brought instant kills, you might want to use more sun to use these.)

Spikerock Strategy[]

Plants required:

  • Wall-nut or Tall-nut (not recommended if your just completing it for the achievement)

Plant your Sunflower in one row only, but it can be in any row. Plant the Sunflowers from column 1-8 (1-7 is recommended) and then place the Garlic on column 9 and/or 8. If you want to rack up sun for Spikeweed and Spikerock, then use Potato Mines and plant them in the 1st column for maximum stall time. Then start planting the Spikeweeds from front to back. It takes 2 Spikeweeds (one Spikerock to kill a Peashooter Zombie, but you may notice that the Wall-nut Zombies get through. This is where the Wall-nut or Tall-nut comes in handy. If you really need to, use a Jalapeno. You can always use Potato Mine to take care of Wall-nut Zombies!

Peashooter + Garlic Strategy[]

First, you must plant ten Sunflowers in each row. Pick the following plants:

  • Sunflower
  • Peashooter
  • Wall-nut
  • Imitater Wall-nut
  • Garlic
  • Squash
  • Anything else you want (maybe Twin Sunflower or Tall-nut)

Begin by planting Sunflowers in the first two columns. You should be able to plant two before the first Peashooter Zombie appears. Plant a Peashooter and a Wall-nut as quick as you can. When the next zombie comes, do the same, probably needing to imitate. When a zombie comes next to an already-prepared lane, use Garlic. You should plant two or three Garlics. If one of your Sunflowers gets shot down, don't feel the immediate need to replace it. If a zombie comes and you're unprepared, squash it. Gradually, keep planting Sunflowers until two rows are filled. If you have extra sun, begin planting extra Peashooters and Wall-nuts for each row. You can also replace Wall-nuts with Tall-nuts or replace Sunflowers with Twin Sunflowers. Certainly, once all your lanes are filled plant at least two Peashooters on each lane. If one of your Wall-nuts, Tall-nuts, or Garlics begins to reach its second degrade, you should probably replace it. Even though there are no vaulting zombies, plant an extra Garlic or a backup Wall-nut just in case. When you receive the trophy, it should look something like this:

S S P P B W W G S S P P B W W S S P P B W W G S S P P B W W S S P P B W W G

Mushroom Strategy[]

This strategy is not that different from the Puff-shroom strategy, but is a little bit easier. It requires only 6 seed slots but no plants are optional. Pick the following:

  • Sun-shroom
  • Puff-shroom
  • Coffee Bean
  • Potato Mine
  • Squash
  • Cherry Bomb

Plant 1 column of Sun-shrooms and wake them up with Coffee Beans. Plant Puff-shrooms as fast as you can but do not wake them up yet. When the zombies start coming, hold off the early ones with Potato Mines until you have a consistent enough sun supply to start waking up your Puff-shrooms. After you have woken up your entire column of Puff-shrooms and the zombies are at bay, plant a second column of Sun-shrooms and wake them up, and then plant a second column of Puff-shrooms and wake those up. Your defense is complete! Use Cherry Bombs and Squashes to keep the Wall-nut Zombies at bay. Continue like such until you have beaten the level.

NOTE: Using this strategy will NOT get you the Good Morning achievement as it uses Day-obtained instant kills. For a way to get Good Morning with this strategy, see below. NOTE: This strategy WILL get you the achievement Wall-Not Attack if played correctly.

Shroom-Tastic Strategy[]

A solid but more expensive strategy would be to bring Sun-shroom, Puff-shroom, Potato Mine, Hypno-shroom, Doom-shroom, Coffee Bean, and whatever other plants. The reason for the first three plants is because they are not able to be hit by the Peashooter Zombies' peas, making them effective against them. The Hypno-shroom is extremely useful against Wall-nut Zombie, because he will continue to attack the zombies until he loses all his health, which is quite a lot. The Doom-shroom, while it is more expensive than the Cherry Bomb, (adding up the Coffee Bean price) it has a much larger range, specifically a 5x7 area.

Variation Mushroom Strategy[]

This strategy is a variation of the Mushroom Strategy allowing you to get the Good Morning achievement. It is much more difficult in that it requires all instant kills to be woken up by Coffee Beans, but can be managed. Again, it requires only 6 seed slots. Choose the following:

  • Sun-shroom
  • Puff-shroom
  • Coffee Bean
  • Hypno-shroom
  • Ice-shroom
  • Doom-shroom

To start plant a Sun-shroom, but don't plant another Sun-shroom until the first has been woken up. Plant a column of Puff-shrooms but don't wake them until the zombies come. Upon the arrival of the first zombie, save sun for a Coffee Bean and wake up the Puff-shroom in the row of the zombie. While the plant is taking care of the zombie, plant another Sun-shroom and wake it up. When you see the next zombie, wake up the Puff-shroom in its row. Go on like this until all of your sun and Puff-shrooms have been planted and woken up. Then plant a second column of Sun-shrooms and wake them up with haste, then plant a second column of Puff-shrooms and wake them up. Use Hypno-shrooms, Ice-shrooms and Doom-shrooms to hypnotize, stall or kill Wall-nut Zombies respectively.

Puffy Patience[]

You need:

  • Puff-shroom
  • Coffee Bean
  • Imitater Wall-nut
  • Wall-nut
  • Squash (optional)
  • Potato Mine (optional)

Simple Strategy that requires 8 seed slots and no upgrade plants[]

Plants needed:

Use rake for the first zombie. When a zombie comes, plant a Wall-nut in that lane with a Potato Mine in front of it and a sleeping Puff-shroom to protect the mine when underground. Before the first flag, there should be a Repeater and Torchwood in each lane. Continue planting Repeaters until the second flag.

Wall-Not Attack strategy[]

By: Astephen542

This requires the following upgrade plants: Gloom-Shroom

Plants required:

  • Sunflower
  • Potato Mine
  • Squash
  • Fume-shroom
  • Gloom-shroom
  • Coffee Bean
  • Garlic
  • Imitater Potato Mine (optional, if 8 slots)
  • Jalapeno (optional, if 9 slots)
  • Cherry Bomb (optional, if 10 slots)

Put Sunflowers in rows 2 and 4 from the top. If a zombie comes in one of these rows, quickly place a Garlic in column 9 in that row to divert the zombie. Use Potato Mines and Squashes to defeat the early zombies. Then, when you have enough sun, place a Gloom-shroom in column 7 in either row 2 or 4, depending on which rows zombies are in. The final build should look like this:

S S S S S G G G g

My Shroom setup, by ShroomstagramUser[]

Plants to use:

  • Sun-shroom
  • Puff-shroom
  • Coffee Bean
  • Squash (for Wall-nut Zombies)
  • Any other instant kill to fill up the seed slots

You don't need to worry about Sun-shrooms right away. When the first zombie that comes out, plant a Puff-shroom, then wake it up. Sun-shrooms are good, cause they can produce sun and not get hit by the Peashooter Zombies. Puff-shrooms can't be hit by Peashooter Zombies, either, so taking those is a good idea. You will need Sun-shrooms for the instant kill plants you might choose.

Coins and Spikes Strategy[]

Plants needed:

  1. Coffee Bean
  2. Sun-shroom
  3. Sunflower
  4. Hypno-shroom
  5. Potato Mine
  6. Squash
  7. Spikeweed
  8. Marigold
  9. Imitater Marigold

This setup should be fairly simple. Plant one column of Sunflowers in the back row. Eventually, players need to plant another column of Sun-shrooms next to the Sunflower. Use a Potato Mine or Squash to take out any zombie that comes. After the five Sunflowers are planted, plant two columns of Spikeweeds on the far right. That will be able to kill all of the Peashooter Zombies. For the Wall-nut Zombies, use a Hypno-shroom or an instant. By the end of the level, there should be a column of Marigolds replacing the shot down Sunflowers. However, keep in mind that the zombies can shoot down Marigolds.

Puff-shroom Strategy[]

Tested on iPad version

Plants:

A rake is recommended

The setup is quite simple, since peas cannot hit Puff-shrooms, plant a Sunflower where there are no peas, and quickly put a Puff-shroom where there is a pea (or you could do it alternately, wait for 75 sun and put a Puff-shroom where there is a Peashooter Zombie). The setup is as follows, as for Wall-nut Zombies, use instants, or stall them using Wall-nut or Tall-nut.

Threepeater Garlic strategy[]

  • Sunflower
  • Garlic
  • Threepeater
  • Potato Mine

These are the most important plants for the strategy. Some other smart choices involve Twin Sunflower, Squash, Jalapeno, and Wall-nut.

First, start building up your Sunflowers on the top and bottom rows. Plant Garlic in the first and second columns in the first, third, and fifth rows. Put Potato Mines at the back of the second and fourth row. Once you have saved up enough sun, put Threepeaters in the middle row. Keep placing Threepeaters and replacing your Garlic, and you will eventually finish.

The lawn at the end should look like this. S = Sunflower, P = Potato Mine, G = Garlic, T = Threepeater.

Egg Bro's defensive strategy[]

Plants needed:

  • Squash
  • Sun Flower
  • Twin Sunflower
  • Wall Nut
  • Melon-Pult
  • Pumpkin
  • Imitator Pumpkin
  • Potato Mine (optional)
  • Kernel-Pult (optional)

You want to start by planting 2 rows of sun flowers, that can later be upgraded to Twin Sunflowers. Place down instant kill plants to deal with the first couple of zombies while you work on planting more sun flowers. You can then start planting your wall nuts 4 lanes to the right of your sun flowers so you can leave space for your damage dealing plants. You can then start planting down your kernel-pults and melon-pults, and start planting pumpkins on your wall nuts. Keep replacing your hurt pumpkins and wall nuts until the end of the level.

Spikeweed Strategy[]

By: sir mANT

Plants needed:

Zombotany Spikeweed Strat
  • Puff-shroom
  • Sun-shroom
  • Coffee Bean
  • Squash
  • Potato Mine
  • Spikeweed
  • Jalapeno (Optional)
  • Cherry Bomb (Optional) Start by planting a Sun-shroom and save up sun. When the first zombie appears, you should have the Sun-shroom woken up by a Coffee bean. Save up 25 sun, and place a Potato mine at least 5 tiles away from the first zombie. Save up more sun, and plant more Sun-shrooms and Coffee beans. You should be able to fend off the zombies with just Squash and Potato mine for a while, but when it gets out of hand plant a few Puff-shrooms and wake them up. You can also use sleeping Puff-shrooms to block your other plants. Before planting any Spikeweeds, make sure to have at least one column of woken Sun-shrooms, and one column of woken Puff-shrooms. Save the second column for more Sun-shrooms later. Plant Spikeweeds at the 9th and 8th columns of every lane. Before you have 2 Spikeweeds in each column, the Wall-nut zombies will be appearing, and kill them with Potato mine/Squash. Plant another lane of Sun-shrooms for more sun. Finish your second column of Spikeweeds, and add a third to completely secure all lanes from Peashooter zombies. This will make the Puff-shrooms useless, so you can dig them. Kill any other Wall-nut zombies with instas, and continue until you win.
