How Garlic diverts zombies into other lanes

OK, so this a thing that I'm going to do when I feel like. I may take requests, I may not. Anyways I hope you enjoy! For this blog, I'm going to assume you've already beaten Plants vs. Zombies once. If you haven't, there will be some minor spoilers. Anyways in this blog, I hope to share some knowledge, as well as a bit of theory crafting as to the past of the Plants vs. Zombies series. I apologize if my research is kinda off. Anyways, let's begin!

So most of you know this, but for those who don't, Garlic is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies, Plants vs. Zombies: Journey to the West, and most recently Plants vs. Zombies:Online. Garlic is a unique plant in that when a zombie takes a bite of it, the zombie moves to a lane adjacent to the lane in which the Garlic is located, while slightly moving forward.

So, the question I'm going to ask (and answer) is, "Why does Garlic divert zombies into other lanes?"

A lot of people seem to think that it's because Garlic has a bad taste. However, this is heavily opinionated and there are plenty of people that like Garlic. Want some examples?

Members of the band DEVO (most famous for that "Whip it" song that is now stuck in your head) love Garlic!

"Garlic is a healing bulb. Those who don't like it should learn to like as much as DEVO does." -DEVO

Another person who likes Garlic is Russell Johnson, but you might know him better as The Professor on Gilligan's Island.

"I love garlic. Some of my friends love garlic. Some don't. The ones who don't are still good friends. Well Hutch! You must be in the garlic BIZ." -Russell Johnson

So clearly, there are some people who like Garlic. What else? Let's go back to that statement by DEVO. Garlic is a "healing bulb", which means that it has strong anti-viral properties. It is often theorized that Zombies come from a viral outbreak, so it would make sense as to why Garlic would divert Zombies into other lanes. (A person infected with the zombie virus would also only have their brain steam as operational, so they could (in theory) still eat and walk, but they couldn't see, hear, or smell, another reason why the bad taste/smell theory is null and void) Since a person with the zombie virus would just walk up unknowingly and eat the Garlic, the Garlic with such strong anti-viral properties, forces the Zombies away from it, and thus into other lanes. And this would also explain as to how the Zombie apocalypse started, virally. This would also make sense as to why plants are the weapon for this game, and as plants (as far as my research goes) aren't infected by viruses that only infect humans. And because the Zombie virus is a "human only" virus, the plants wouldn't get it, so they're safe. What about Zombotany? Those are plant heads on Zombie body, so maybe a plant was growing in a decomposing zombie body, (without a head of course) found a way to control it, then the decomposing body having the Zombie virus, found a way to infect the plant? This is of course theory crafting at this point, but what are the facts? what have we learned today? We learned that Garlic as a plant has strong anti-viral properties, and thus it is able to fend off (at least someone) the zombie virus, with the ability to divert Zombies into other lanes, away from the Garlic. We also learned that zombie apocalypse is likely caused by a viral infection.

Thanks for reading, hope you learned something! If there's anything else you'd like to add to this, or if I'm missing something, let me know in the comments!
