Have some patience get the 31 free gems daily and you'll get far (5 videos x 3 gems + 1 Pinata Party x 2 gems + Win 1 Battlez match x 2 gems + Play 2 free Battlez matches x 1 gem + 1 complete all daily quests x 10 gems) = 15 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 10 = 31
Why don't you buy like 50 Modern Day pinatas (the ones that cost 100 gems?) You'll have like level 8-9 dusklobbers/moonflowers and become pretty much unbeatable...

I've hacked 50 MD pinatas before and I can confirm that they wont get you into level 9 if you arent in Jade league

Yes, its 180 plants, but remember that those are split between 5 plants. Also dont forget that shadow plants have ridiculously high levelup requirements.
