Early plant designs[]

Sea Anemone[]

Sea Anemone was originally going to be yellow rather than magenta.

Unused plants[]

Small Peach[]

Small Peach from Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars was supposed to appear in this game, but was scrapped. It is currently unknown what its abilities were.

Mihungu[]

Mihungu (possibly 迷魂菇 in Chinese, lit. "Mesmerize-shroom") was an unused plant originally meant to appear in the game, but was scrapped for unknown reasons. It is currently unknown what its abilities were.

Magnet-shroom[]

Magnet-shroom was originally going to appear in the game, but was scrapped for unknown reasons. His only animation is taken directly from the original Plants vs. Zombies, which likely was a placeholder.

Zhiyuhua[]

Zhiyuhua was an unused plant originally meant to appear in the game, but was scrapped for unknown reasons. It is currently unknown what its abilities were.

Cherry-bomb[]

Cherry Bomb might've acted as a placeholder animation when developing the game, hinted by the fact that he doesn't have a proper animation and that it only has one frame.

Unused zombies[]

Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum Imp[]

Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum was supposed to have an Imp variant, however it never appeared in the game.

Overseer Zombie[]

Overseer Zombie (监工僵尸) is a scrapped zombie that, presumably, was supposed to appear in Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum. Despite being scrapped, he still exists in the game's code and works. He occasionally whips his slave to gain a speed boost. Why he was scrapped is unknown, although it could have been due to his design depicting slavery.

Sea Yaksha Zombie[]

Sea Yaksha Zombie is a zombie that was supposed to appear in East Sea Dragon Palace. Its ability would be to summon water streams, which would slow attack speed of plants in its row.

Pufferfish Zombie[]

Pufferfish Zombie is a zombie that was supposed to appear in East Sea Dragon Palace. Its ability would be to fatten up when attacked.

Fish Thrower Imp[]

Fish Thrower Imp from Plants vs. Zombies: Endless Edition was supposed to appear in this game as a zombie in East Sea Dragon Palace, but was scrapped.

Turtle Chancellor Zombie[]

Turtle Chancellor Zombie is a zombie that was supposed to appear in East Sea Dragon Palace. Its special ability was armor. which would reduce all incoming damage, similar to Tortoise Zombie from Plants vs. Zombies: Endless Edition.

East Sea Dragon Palace Zombot[]

East Sea Dragon Palace was supposed to have its unique Zombot.

Prospector Zombie[]

Despite the Wild West not being in Plants vs. Zombies Online, the Prospector Zombie has his own bbone file (which is the file format the animations for plants, zombies, and projectiles and such are in) but no AI.

Scrapped and unused assets[]

These assets were found in the game files, but were either unused or scrapped.

Unused Lawns[]

In the game, there exists four lawns that go unused. The first two were used for a tutorial level that was in the game’s first two betas, in the third beta it would be replaced with the game opening in the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum.

The 3rd lawn was meant for the Market, as the house and overall lawn shares the same design and color scheme as the one in the Town. This likely meant that special missions in the Market would’ve originally been fought in a tower defense style rather than an RPG style akin to Adventure Mode. The 4th lawn is the Day lawn from the original Plants vs. Zombies. Why this was in the files is unknown, but likely was a placeholder.

Unused Music[]

An unused track named "Mus_Egypt_Battle_Card.swf" was found in the game's sound folder. Due to the name, it's suspected to be an unused Ancient Egypt battle theme. It may have been a test for the Adventure Mode music, as it shares the same tempo and most of the same instruments.

3_top.swf[]

Within the folder for lawns, there's an swf file called 3_top.swf. When viewed with the Flash Player, its revealed to be a lighting effect that would've gone over the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum lawn in older versions of the game.
