Zombie jackbox box

The jack-in-the-box

The Jack-in-the-box is an item used by Jack-in-the-Box Zombies. It can be attracted by a Magnet-shroom. If it or the zombie is not taken out within a certain amount of time, it will explode and destroy all plants in a 3x3 range, similar to a Cherry Bomb's explosion or a Cob Cannon's missiles, along with the Jack-in-the-Box Zombie carrying it.

On the web version of Plants vs. Zombies, it is replaced with dynamite in Vasebreaker, because Jack-in-the-Box Zombies are not present in this version of the game.

Function[]

Jack-in-the-boxes are carried by Jack-in-the-Box Zombies. As long as its carrier is alive, the jack-in-the-box generates a special melody, a xylophone version of the famous nursery tune "Pop Goes the Weasel." If it is not pulled by a Magnet-shroom (or either the Jack-in-the-Box Zombie is not killed), it detonates after a while, killing all the plants in a 3x3 range of it along with its carrier. It scares its carrier by surprising it at a random time, triggering the sudden explosion.

Strategies[]

For more strategies, see Jack-in-the-Box Zombie.

Since it is magnetic, it is usually best to use Magnet-shroom to attract it away from its owner. However, if you have a very powerful offensive strategy, you can just count on your offense to kill them. Instant-kill plants such as Cherry Bomb, Jalapeno, and Squash also works.

Trivia[]

  • Even though the jack-in-the-box is modeled after a kid's toy, it explodes in the game, making it a weapon.
  • When it explodes, it makes a "Sproing!!" sound, just like the Umbrella Leaf.
  • If it explodes near the flattened sprite of plants, they will despawn immediately.
