Gadget Scientist is a premium rare zombie card in Plants vs. Zombies Heroes, and a member of the Brainy class. He costs 5 to play, and has 2/3. He does not have any traits, and his ability makes every science zombie on the field, including him, do a bonus attack when he is played.
His description mentions Mad Chemist, as both have the same hair color, but a slightly different hair style.
- Class: Brainy
- Tribe: Science Zombie
- Traits: None
- Ability: When played: Each Science Zombie does a Bonus Attack.
- Set - Rarity: Premium - Rare
Wishes the Mad Chemist would stop copying his hair style.
- Set - Rarity change: Basic - Uncommon → Premium - Rare
By himself, Gadget Scientist is a weak zombie that only does one bonus attack, and is not worth the expensive cost. However, if you synergize him with other science zombies on the field, Gadget Scientist can wreak havoc against your opponent. The Brainy class has the most science zombies, which either benefit greatly from bonus attacks, such as Kite Flyer or Zombot Drone Engineer, or simply have high strength, like Copter Commando or Portal Technician. As if that was not enough, every other zombie class also has some powerful science zombies. For example, as Super Brainz, you can combine Gadget Scientist with Zombot Sharktronic Sub. This combo is really useful for clearing the field and giving Zombot Sharktronic Sub enormous strength boost should the lawn be filled with science zombies against many plants.
Copter Commando and Gadget Scientist mainly make a great team, because you can play Hail-a-Copter to make Copter Commando first on an empty lane during the Zombie Tricks phrase, doing 6 damage to your opponent. Then on the next turn, you can play Gadget Scientist for Copter Commando to attack again, doing another 6 damage to the plant hero. This works really well at finishing your opponent off at turn 6 or later.
You can take advantage of Gadget Scientist's ability by giving traits such as Deadly or Frenzy to the science zombies. The bonus attack along with the traits are a good combination as the traits will positively affect the science zombies that are triggered by Gadget Scientist's ability.
However, if Wing-Nut is on the field, do not play him as his ability will be nullified.
There's nothing you can do about his special ability, but the zombie himself is pretty weak, many plants can destroy this zombie easily. You do need to be careful if there are other science zombies in the board as Gadget Scientist allows all science zombies to do bonus attacks. In that case, you want to try to destroy as many science zombies as possible before Gadget Scientist is played so that his ability becomes less effective.
If you think your opponent will play this, use plants with the Team-Up trait or high-health plants to block the science zombies' bonus attacks. You can also play Wing-Nut to make his ability useless, turning him into an expensive Space Cadet.
Plants vs. Zombies Wiki has a gallery for Gadget Scientist.
- When Gadget Scientist is played, if the plant hero blocks one of the bonus attacks and gets Transmogrify, and then uses it on another science zombie, the transformed zombie would still do a bonus attack even if that zombie does not belong to the science tribe.
- If Gadget Scientist is given Overshoot, then activates it, the satellite dish on his rocket will emit waves.
