Fire Chomper is the Rare fire variant of the Chomper in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. He is one of the six fire-based variants on the plants' side, along with the Fire Cactus, Fire Pea, Fire Flower, BBQ Corn, and Fire Rose.

Origins[]

He may be based on the Venus Fire Trap from the Super Mario games.

Descriptions[]

Stickerbook description[]

The Fire Chomper enjoys chasing the Zombies around, using his intimidating flames to make them flee."

In-game description[]

Fire Chomper belches flames, dealing fire damage over time.

AI health (Garden Warfare 2 only)[]

  • Easy: 105
  • Normal: 140
  • Hard: 175
  • CRAAAAZY: 210

Appearance[]

In GW1, he looks like a Chomper whose head is on fire. In GW2, his back is also on fire.

Variant perk[]

The Fire Chomper's primary attack is not a bite, but he breathes out fire to harm nearby zombies instead. The fire breath deals ten damage continuously and causes damage over time to the zombies at a rate of five damage per second for a few seconds after the zombie is hit. Toxic Chomper and Power Chomper utilize spray instead of chomps as well.

Another benefit to the fire breath is that it bypasses additional defenses on Spawnable Zombies such as screen doors, coffins, barrels, and outhouses, making short work of heavily defended zombies, similar to the Fume-shroom in Plants vs. Zombies.

Primary weapon[]

Flame Spray is the primary weapon of the Fire Chomper. In GW1, it deals ten damage at 240 rpm with no button mashing exploit and deals fire damage (It deals 5 damage every 0.75s for 3.75s). In GW2, he deals 8 damage with the button mashing exploit which can be spammed at 600 rpm, giving him a incredible TTK.

Weapon upgrades[]

FireChomperUpgrade

Blazing Speed[]

Fire Chomper moves slightly below blazing speed.

Heartburn Digestion[]

Reduced chance of heartburn decreases digestion time when eating Zombies.

Flame Hardened Skin[]

Flame hardened skin provides extra health boost.

Strategies[]

As[]

Although Fire Chomper has a spray that allows him to fight at a slightly longer range, he should still be played as any other Chomper. The fire effect allows you to deal lots of damage when combined with the spray's initial damage. Combining this with Goop or Spikeweeds works well to stack up the damage in a hurry. In Garden Warfare 2, his character upgrades can make him a significant threat to zombies. The Overheat and Fire Upgrades are recommended to improve his power, fire damage and Spikeweeds, respectively. His incredible TTK makes him a force to be reckoned with against most zombies.

Against[]

Fire Chomper should be attacked from a distance, but avoid his Goop, as it can deal damage even if the player character is on a roof or other elevated surface. Avoid getting close to Fire Chomper, as he will most likely attempt a vanquish via his Flame Spray or swallowing from behind.

Balancing changes[]

Graveyard Variety Pack DLC[]

  • Digestion time was decreased after a chomp escape (i.e. victim got away using an anti-chomp ability like Jackhammer).
  • Brought Chomper's regeneration delay to parity with all other playable characters.

Trouble in Zombopolis: Part One DLC[]

  • Tuned Chomper camera to be closer to that in Garden Warfare.
  • Improved all digestion time upgrade multipliers.

Trouble in Zombopolis: Part Two DLC[]

  • Increased overheat time from 1s to 1.25s.

Trials of Gnomus DLC[]

  • Fire DOT damage was decreased from 5 to 4.
  • Number of damage ticks were increased from 4 to 5.
  • Damage was decreased from 10 to 8.

Trivia[]

  • His primary attack, the Flame Spray, appears to have a slight range increase.
  • When you give him accessories, his mouth will not burn anymore, only in GW1.
  • He deals the same damage and fire rate as the Spawnable Plant Snap Dragon.
  • When he is using Flame Spray and an All-Star uses Sprint Tackle on him, the flame has a visible range while he is flying away.
  • He, Fire Pea, Yeti Chomper, and Garlic Drone are the only plants mentioned in another plant's Stickerbook entry. Fire Chomper is mentioned in Power Chomper's entry.
  • He was redesigned in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 to have an all-yellow mouth, yellow spots, and reddish spikes.
