Menace on Molten Mountain! is the eighth mission for the zombie side in Plants vs. Zombies Heroes. The main opposing plant hero in this mission is Captain Combustible. This mission also features Grass Knuckles and Rose as opposing plant heroes.

Plot (Spoilers)

Captain Combustible is powering up Peashooters with his fiery stump. Super Brainz, Impfinity, Immorticia, and Neptuna start to battle with Captain Combustible and his super-charged Peashooters. After relentless fighting, Super Brainz uses Neptuna's tank to extinguish Captain Combustible's flame.

Captain Combustible will attempt to boost his plants with Berry Angry, and remove your zombies with Berry Blast, but aside from this, all of his plants have low strength and/or health, so they can be easily removed with tricks like Rolling Stone and Weed Spray.

Teammate Battle (I)

Grass Knuckles will move his plants around with Gardening Gloves and boost them with Grow-Shroom. Crazy and Hearty heroes, preferably Z-Mech, are recommended to remove the plants before they are boosted, and prepare for the Potted Powerhouses.

Mini-Boss Battle

Captain Comustible has dropped Button Mushrooms and Pair of Pears for Repeaters, Shroom For Two and more of the same plants he used in the encounter battle. For the most part, apply tactics used in the encounter battle here.

Teammate Battle (II)

Rose will attempt to Freeze, Bounce and Debuff your zombies with her numerous tricks and plants. Try playing several zombies so that Rose will have a hard time choosing which ones to use tricks on. Additionally, all of her plants are low-health, and therefore most are weak to Bungee Plumber.

Boss Battle

Captain Combustible has brought back Pair of Pears, dropped Shroom for Two, and has also added Sour Grapes and Podfathers in an attempt to boost his plants. Remove them with tricks and strong zombies before he has the chance to do so.

• In the comics, Captain Combustible's helmet is depicted differently from the actual game, having only one pair of "horns" instead of two.
• The comic book cover's "Z-Men" title is a reference to the X-Men, while the cover itself is a possible reference to Issue 25 Volume 2 of the New Avengers comic book series.
• This comic’s cover art was designed by Les McClaine.
• The cover art shows Captain Combustible creating a orange flame around him, while in-game and in the rest of the comic he creates a blue flame. This is most likely a rare oversight from Les McClaine.
