When Fungi Attack!

When Fungi Attack! is the tenth mission for the zombie side in Plants vs. Zombies Heroes. The main opposing plant hero in this mission is Nightcap. This mission also features Green Shadow and Wall-Knight as opposing plant heroes.

Plot (Spoilers)

Professor Brainstorm, Super Brainz, and Electric Boogaloo discover Nightcap's secret dojo hut. They attack it but Nightcap separates the former hero from the two latter heroes. Professor Brainstorm then uses a zapper to zap Nightcap and the Poison Mushrooms.

Encounter Battle

Nightcap must have gotten wind of how the other heroes failed, because right from the start, he already started to make use of the mushroom synergy to take you down (via Punish-Shroom). Make sure to remove each Punish-Shroom before doing a board clear or else you and/or your zombies will take a lot of damage. As for the board clear itself, The Chickening would be effective here due to all plants except for Smoosh-Shroom having 2 health or less.

Teammate Battle (I)

Can't say much about here but some things are certain. She will not use much tricks so Re-Peat Moss will not be much of a threat here. Give no suitable targets for her to freeze so that her Snowdrops will not be boosted. There is also hardly any pea plants here so Torchwood will be used mostly as a Team-Up wall to protect her fragile plants. Worst case scenario, use Rocket Science or Bounce away plants that has been boosted to the winds.

Mini-Boss Battle

He decided to reuse the same deck but with some modifications to it. Now there's Berry Angry to inflict more damage on you. Other than that, it's pretty much the same deck. Just remember that if you used Weed Spray for board clears for the Encounter Battle, you cannot use that once Berry Angry has been used since all plants will have at least 3 strength.

Teammate Battle (II)

Wall-Knight has Water Balloons to reduce the stats of your zombies, Smackadamia to raise the health of his nut teammates, Jugger-Nuts to deliver unblockable damage to your hero, and Magnifying Grass to deliver the death blow. Almost all his teammates are weak to Rolling Stone and Weed Spray. Make use of them to wipe clean his board. If need be, play Rocket Science to defeat stronger teammates or play Gravestone Zombies, especially Squirrel Herder, since he doesn't have Grave Busters.

Boss Battle

The gimmick for this boss battle will benefit Nightcap well since he needs a quick knockout. However, if you are using a rushing deck on him, you will also benefit from this gimmick since he himself also has less health. If you let the game drag too long though, he can unleash Grapes of Wrath on you, which will spell the end of you.

Trivia

• The title of the issue is the reference to DC Universe's Doom Patrol.
• The mission map has a gong with Crazy Dave’s face on it.
• The arena has a training dummy with a face that looks similar to the one that appears when Z-Mech is laughing.
• The arena has 2 swords mounted on the wall near the plant hero and a Chomper statue next to the water lane.
• The mission’s map & arena were drawn by Karin Madan.
• The comic’s cover art was designed by Frogchildren Studios.
• This comic reuses a lot of art from the rest of the game, having the heroes use edited sprites from their in-game artwork & the backgrounds being edited images of this missions arena.
• In the first comic strip, the Sunflower closest to Nightcap is styled in the PvZ 2 art motif & the plants facing nightcap use edited in-game sprites, made to face backwards.
• In the second comic strip, Peashooter, Sunflower & Electric Boogaloo use their artwork from the beta loading screen, with the 2 plants having eyebrows drawn on & Super Brains uses edited artwork from his victory pose.
• In the final comic strip, Nightcap, the Poison Mushrooms & Professor Brainstorm have an off color palette. Nightcap and his minions have a lot more contrast than normal & professor Brainstorm has dull colors.
