Count Chompula is a Rare variant of the Chomper in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. He heals himself by 50 health when he swallows and fully digests a zombie.
Origins[]
His name is a spoof of Count Dracula. It is also a spoof of the cereal brand and mascot, "Count Chocula," which is also a Dracula spoof.
His ability to heal upon swallowing a zombie is based off of the idea that vampires feed upon blood to sustain themselves. Vampires are also commonly depicted wearing black and red, which is Count Chompula's color scheme. The pipe organ that plays when he swallows a zombie references the pipe organ being Count Dracula's signature instrument.
Descriptions[]
Stickerbook description[]
Count Chompula is very, very hungry. He's always looking for a Zombie feast. He regains health for every Zombie he swallows.
In-game description[]
Eat Zombies to regain lost health!
AI health (Garden Warfare 2 only)[]
- Easy: 90
- Normal: 120
- Hard: 150
- CRAAAAAZY: 180
Variant perk[]
The main difference from the normal Chomper is that whenever Count Chompula swallows and digests a zombie, he will recover 50 health. It seems so far that no matter what type of zombie he eats, he will always gain 50 health. This counteracts the fact that Count Chompula has 150 health without the health upgrade no faster whatsoever than what a normal Chomper has.
Primary weapon[]
Vampiric Chomp is the primary weapon of Count Chompula. It deals the same damage as the regular Chomp (25 damage). However, after a zombie is swallowed and digested, Count Chompula will heal by 50.
Abilities[]
Left abilities | |
---|---|
Goop |
Hitting targets with the Chomper's ranged Goop attack is a great way to slow them down, making them easier to chomp. They taste better too! |
Super Sticky Goop |
This goop is sooo sticky that Zombies are not even able to move when they get hit by it. Let's say it together... "Now that's Sticky!" |
Cheesy Goop |
The Cheesy Goop in the first in Crazy Dave's new line of gourmet marinades. It's scientifically formulated to slow Zombies down and make them taste great! |
Center abilities | |
Burrow |
The Chomper's ultimate weapon. He has the ability to tunnel underground and ambush unsuspecting Zombies by emerging under their feet and swallowing them whole! |
Sprint Burrow |
The Sprint Burrow allows the Chomper to move much faster when under the ground, but the range is quite limited. |
Right abilities | |
Spikeweed |
Laying Spikeweed traps is a great way to ambush Zombies. If they walk over the Spikeweed, they get ensnared and are easy to chomp. |
Spiky Spikeweed |
The Spiky Spikeweed deals more damage to Zombies it ensnares, but only a few can be deployed at a time. |
Chesterweed |
The Chesterweed attacks at an extremely fast speed, dealing up to 70 damage in 5 seconds. Chompers eating zombies trapped by the Chesterweed will swallow significantly faster, but the Chomper can only have two of them at a time, instead of three. It takes 60 seconds to recharge one Chesterweed. |

When a zombie stumbles into a Vampweed, you get a helpful health boost! The zombie isn't hurt, but he probably feels a bit silly falling into your trap. |
Weapon upgrades[]
Super Vampiric Speed Boost[]
Count Chompula gets even faster movement speed with his Super Vampiric Speed Boost.
Hyper Digestion[]
Reduces time to digest Zombies through the use of a hyper digestion system.
Crazy Health Boost[]
Maximum health increased because he's CRAAAAAZY!
Strategies[]
Count Chompula is ideally suited towards roaming Chompers who like to operate behind enemy lines, on the outskirts of the map, and in other obscure locations, far away from teammates. However, it is recommended to auto-regenerate (if low on health) and then swallow zombies to get to full health faster. The ability to recover health independently by eating zombies makes surviving when away from Sunflowers much easier as you can gain more health on your own rather than just auto-regenerating to 50%, allowing you to operate alone for longer than usual.
On the contrary, though, Count Chompula loses some of his efficiency when close to allies, as the ability to recover health independently is rendered obsolete because Sunflowers can just as quickly heal you, and the 25 less health will eventually play against you.
The auto-regenerate is much different Garden Warfare 2, as you will still auto-regenerate after 50% health and continue auto-regenerating while shooting or using abilities, which makes this Chomper seem an even worse choice than other ones unless you get caught while chewing a zombie. Pairing this character with Vampweed would be a great idea because, with Vampweed, you recover an extra 40 health if a zombie stumbles into it.
Balancing changes[]
Graveyard Variety Pack DLC[]
- ▲ Digestion time was decreased after a chomp escape (i.e. victim got away using anti-chomp ability like Jackhammer).
- ▼ Brought Chompers regeneration delay to parity with all other playable characters.
Trouble in Zombopolis: Part One DLC[]
- Tuned Chomper camera to be closer to that in Garden Warfare.
- ▲ Improved all digestion time upgrade multipliers.

Trivia[]
- Other than normal regeneration, he is the only variant that can heal independently, without the use of an ability.
- However, this is only the case in Garden Warfare 1, as in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, the Vampire Flower can also heal on her own.
- He only heals when he fully swallows a zombie, meaning if he attempts to eat a zombie that cannot be eaten (like an Engineer riding a Jackhammer), he will not regain any health, as he only eats the Jackhammer and not the Engineer.
- After he digests a zombie, he glows reddish-yellow and plays an organ chord for a few seconds.
- A much-shortened version of the chord also plays when he Chomps.
- When his original Hat accessory is removed, his head will no longer glow when he swallows a zombie, making you less noticeable, especially on night maps, as there is no more bright light on you.
- The description for Count Chompula's Crazy Health Boost weapon upgrade references Crazy Dave's catchphrase.
